Of Uley, kt, founded the line of Berkeleys of Stoke Gifford. Born c. 1298, he died at the siege of Calais in 1347. Son of Maurice de Berkeley, 2nd baron Berkeley, who had been seneschal of Gascony in 1319-20, and who had been imprisoned for his involvement in the revolt against Edward II, dying in captivity in 1326.
