Welcome to the new version of the Gascon Rolls website.
For some years, Gascon Rolls has been served through the XMod TEI-based publishing application created by DDH at King's College London. Development of XMod continued for some years, culminating in the release of a daughter platform, Kiln. Under the hood, this new iteration of the Gascon Rolls website relies on Kiln for publication of calendars and related material in TEI.
That said, this new platform is designed with more than TEI publication in mind. If the Gascon Rolls themselves are reference material, the site that surrounds it is a meeting space for sharing 'contextual materials' - background information, theoretical material, access tools and analysis.
A user-editable content management system, Mezzanine, has been implemented. With accessibility in mind in mind, the new version of the site enjoys multilingual content, internationalisation and a broadened feature set. Since this work has involved a number of extensions to Mezzanine, we will publish an outline on the DDH code repository on Github.
